GBR Season Fishing Report

The Black Marlin Season was again one of the best, with the fishing being predominately at the Ribbon Reefs. Large Black Marlin were caught in September, October and November. Proving once again that Cairns is the place to catch Giant Black Marlin.

Nigel Taylor, Pete and Maura enjoyed great fishing and some memorable spear fishing.

Mohsin and Marty from Dubai joined us again and although the weather was sometimes rough they caught 14 fish with two being 900lb.

Miguel and son Adrian from Mexico enjoyed fabulous fishing with Adrian fighting a fish for over 4 hours estimated at 1200lb.

Ron Quinn. Ed, Green-shirt and Ducho from Melbourne set a cracking pace with Jeff releasing a 900lb plus fish on the first day. They enjoyed some spear fishing and a lot of laughs. They released 7 fish in four days.

Chris Holtz and Tom Tuebel from USA saw a great deal of fish with Chris releasing his biggest fish yet 950lb, congratulations.

Andy Stein, Gina and Sadler from Tennessee had a fantastic trip, Andy and Gina both releasing 900lb fish and 12 fish in 5 days. Well Done.

Scott Rooney and friends from Brisbane has a great trip and saw some excellent reef and tagged three fish.

Bill, Gordo and friends from Brisbane had the time of their life with Gordo weighing a 965lb fish, his first ever.

If you would like to experience a trip on the Great Barrier Reef where last year we landed a 1304 lb Black Marlin, with some great fishing, food and lots of fun please contact us and share one the wonders of the world.

Australia boasts one of the finest and well managed fishing fleets in the world. The fishing is primarily tag and release type, with large fish or world records only being taken. The Great Barrier Reef area of Cairns is known world wide as the place to come to fish for 'granders'. A quick glance at the record books will confirm Cairns as the fishing capital of the world.

Fishing can be organized in two ways..

  1. A game fishing boat working largely from a mother ship which is anchored behind the reef.
  2. A self-contained game fishing boat which facilitates both fishing and live-aboard. This option gives the angler the option to be able to move where the fish are.

The fishing grounds range from Lizard Island (150 miles north of Cairns) to slightly south of Cairns. Because of this distance it is sometimes advantageous to fly by seaplane to meet the vessel or a commercial flight to Lizard Island.

Flexibility of charter services exist and trips ranging from day trips out of Cairns to extended fishing trips can easily be arranged. The Great Barrier Reef offers good anchorages and the ability to move to find the large concentrations of Billfish. The opportunity exists to take advantage of diving, snorkelling and bottom fishing in a variety of locations.

We have been in operation since 1981. You are ensured of a first class professional service and we are able to design a charter to suit your needs.

For more information please do not hesitate to contact us either at our fax, email, or telephone number.....We hope to share the wonders of our Australian waters with you soon.....
