Phytoremedation Of Water by Plants

Phytoremeadiation is a process that cleans up the mess left behind by the critters living in the water.
Principally the silver perch and the red claw.
For this purpose we are using two local plants to start with, Long Val and oxygen weed both growing in the water.
Research will have to be done to determine if these are the best suited of the local plants available.
The theory goes like this, Fish piss and shit in the water, bacteria in the water eat this up producing nitrites which in turn feeds other bacteria which produce nitrates, this in turn is plant fertilizer which is taken up by the plants through the roots and leaves. The bacteria live on the surface area of every thing in the ponds. Thus the bacteria living on the leaves and roots of the plants are converting the waste from the fish to plant food, at the point were the plant can take it up, thus removing it from the water and locking it into the vegetation. The fish and cray fish eat some of this vegetation, some is sold as aquarium plants and the rest is used as compost or mulch, totally removing it from the system.
Floating or suspended solids eventually find there way to the settling pond were the very slow flow and deep water allow the solids to settle out. Applications of benanite clay will result in crystal clear water coming off back to the system.
A percentage of the water is used daly for irrigation on the orchards, fertilizing the plants as well as filtering the water through the soil thus inriching the soil and completing a natural cycle and bringing about a natural balance of micro nutrients and bacteria.
