PLEASE SUPPORT ANIMAL WELFARE:

1] WSPA [International] "WORLD SOCIETY for the PROTECTION of ANIMALS"

WEBSITE : http://www.wspa-international.org/

Their work: A key area of WSPA's work has been the introduction of animal welfare principles into regions where they were previously under developed or non-existent, such as introducing procedures to ensure the humane slaughter of livestock in many developing countries and running numerous projects to improve the conditions of stray animal populations. A few highlights from WSPA's first 25 years include: The eradication of bear dancing in Greece and Turkey. For the first time, a Spanish city (Barcelona), declared itself as "anti-bullfight". From Sri Lanka to Afghanistan and Pakistan to The Caribbean, hundreds of thousands of animals have been rescued and treated in disaster relief efforts all over the world. First ever animal welfare legislation introduced in Taiwan. For the first time, it is illegal in Taiwan to abuse, maltreat or abandon an animal. Bear sanctuaries funded and built in India, Pakistan, Thailand, Turkey, Greece, USA and Hungary. Mobile veterinary clinics delivered to member organisations in Africa, Europe, South America, The Caribbean and Asia. 'Pet Respect' programmes launched in over 40 countries worldwide to improve the welfare of stray and pet animals. Vietnamese Government agreement to phase out bear farming. Great ape sanctuaries funded in Sierra Leone, The Congo and Spain.

2]IFAW ~ "INTERNATIONAL FUND for ANIMAL WELFARE"

WEBSITE: http://www.ifaw.org/

Their work: Three decades ago, a small group of concerned local citizens banded together to stop a massive and brutal commercial hunt for white-coat harp seals on the eastern coast of Canada, and a new breed of animal advocacy organization was born. From the outset, the founders of the International Fund for Animal Welfare, or IFAW, rejected the notion that the interests of humans and animals were separate. Instead they embraced the understanding that the fate and future of harp seals-and all other animals on Earth-are inextricably linked to our own. IFAW's courageous actions drew international attention to the plight of the seal pups and successfully rallied worldwide condemnation of the hunt. Thanks to IFAW's continued vigilance, it is now illegal to hunt whitecoat seal pups for commercial purposes on the ice floes off Canada's east coast. This is a fragile victory, however, for Canada's commercial seal hunt persists. IFAW continues to document and expose abuses of the commercial hunt and press for an end to this cruel, unsustainable slaughter. Over the years, the small team of committed campaigners reaching out to help seals has grown to become the world's leading international animal welfare organization. IFAW begins its fourth decade of operation with more than 200 experienced campaigners, legal and political experts, and internationally acclaimed scientists working from offices in 15 countries around the world. We are now joined in this important work by some two million contributors worldwide. This broad base of support makes it possible for IFAW to engage communities, government leaders, and like-minded organizations around the world and achieve lasting solutions to pressing animal welfare and conservation challenges-solutions that benefit both animals and people. Over the years, our approach has been as varied as the species we protect.
