Seastar Cruises Great Barrier Reef Tour departs daily from Cairns, Queensland Australia visiting both the Coral Island at Michaelmas Cay and the Outer Edge Reef of Hastings Reef. These are two very different locations where at both destinations you can enjoy snorkelling, introductory diving and certified diving - bird watchers can take pleasure in the nesting Terns on Michaelmas Cay while at Hastings Reef you can enjoy coral viewing staying dry in the Glass Bottom Boat.

Catering to smaller number of passengers, Seastar Cruises is a local Cairns operated family business and is still 100% Australian owned. Seastar Cruises has been operating to the Great Barrier Reef since 1956 and early on selected the prime locations for the first moorings at both destinations. The moorings at Michaelmas Cay are positioned to provide the utmost protection for snorkellers and divers alike where at Hastings Reef  other moorings place you amongst the most spectacular hard corals.

On boarding you will be met by the owners of the Seastar, where you will be invited to enjoy a delicious Breakfast Muffin and a cup of Tea or Coffee. After this you can meet the crew who will assist you to select your snorkel or dive equipment for the day.

Making the way past Green Island, Seastar travels through Luggers Pass, a beautiful and interesting section of shallow reef and corals that in places is only 3 metres deep, to arrive at the first destination, Michaelmas Cay, an exotic unspoilt Coral Sand Island located within a sensitive conservation zone and fragile seabird nesting rookery that has access numbers rigidly enforced by the National Parks and Marine Park Authorities. Very few vessels are now permitted access to this very sensitive island and Seastar is one of the rare vessels that travel daily that are permitted access to the Cay. You are allowed to set foot on the Cay!

As soon as the boat stops it is at once surrounded by large and friendly Batfish; these inquisitive, harmless fish enjoy swimming with snorkellers. From here, our large, stable Tender can transfer you the short distance to the island, not only world renowned for its thousands of nesting birds but also for its myriad of colourful corals, giant clams and reef fish. Seastar is the closest boat to the Island, so close, you can swim to it. If you prefer, you can enter the water from the rear platform on the Seastar and following the coral trail just off the side of the boat, enjoy the short swim to the beach.
